Gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen and helium can be readily compressed into a cylinder at pressures up to 300 bar.
These cylinders are constructed from materials capable of withstanding these pressures. Traditionally these cylinders have been made from high strength steel or aluminium but modern composite cylinders are now becoming available.
Many fuel gases are liquid and room temperature and are stored at low pressures in thin walled steel or composite cylinders.
Acetylene, because of its properties, needs to be stored in a cylinder containing a ‘porous mass’ into which the gas is held in a carrier solvent.
The cylinders come in a range of sizes which are normally defined as the water capacity of the package (in liters) and the gas quantity (in Nmc or Kg) is determined by the gas type, the filling pressure and the cylinder size. Which size is most suitable for you will depend on a range of factors including consumption and flow rate.
Each cylinder is fitted with a cylinder valve tailored to suit the gas and pressure requirements.
The outlet thread is dictated by international standards to ensure that only regulators compatible with these requirements can be fitted.
